The State Library strives to serve the needs of state offices and employees and lawmakers, providing in-depth reference and research assistance over the telephone, by email, through Ask-A-Librarian, or in person.
The library staff also provides database training for the electronic databases that are available through Louisiana Library Connection. If requested, library staff also may visit state agencies to explain available services and resources for state employees.
State employees and lawmakers may locate materials through the State Library’s online catalog. They can call or e-mail the Reference Section to request titles found in the online catalog. Employees who work within the Capitol Complex may visit the State Library to select and pick-up materials. Materials can be mailed to employees at their state office who work outside the Capitol complex. Items may then be returned by mail. The employee or agency is responsible for return postage.
The Louisiana Public Document Depository Program assures the state’s citizens have access to Louisiana’s state publications. This program is an effective method for agencies to ensure that their publications are available throughout the state for use by the public.
