10/7/2025 - The Louisiana Book Festival kicks off on Saturday, November 1, in downtown Baton Rouge’s Capitol Park, with a celebration of the State Library of Louisiana’s 100th anniversary.
9/30/2025 - The Louisiana Book Festival is looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help put on the state's flagship celebration of readers, writers, and their books this fall. Each year the festival needs hundreds of volunteers in a variety of capacities, including welcoming presenters, escorting authors, assisting with programs, staffing festival information booths, and other tasks.
9/23/2025 - The Louisiana Book Festival has selected a trio of short stories by renowned Louisiana author Kate Chopin as the focus of its popular One Book, One Festival discussion group on Saturday, November 1, 2025. Chopin’s featured stories are "At the 'Cadian Ball" and "La Belle Zoraïde" from BAYOU FOLK, and "Athenaise" from A NIGHT IN ACADIE.
9/16/2025 - The Louisiana Book Festival has announced the faculty for its 2025 WordShops writing workshops, which include a former Louisiana Poet Laureate, multiple award-winning authors, and a top-selling literary agent. The three-hour writing workshops will be held Friday, October 31, at the State Library of Louisiana in Baton Rouge.
9/2/2025 - The Louisiana Center for the Book in the State Library of Louisiana today announced the nominated book titles for the 2026-2027 Louisiana Readers’ Choice program. Since the program began in 1999, almost half a million K-12 students have read more than 1.5 million books to select winners in the program’s Young Readers and Teen Readers grade level categories.
8/19/2025 - Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser and the State Library of Louisiana today officially opened the library’s new Literacy and Learning Lab. Designed for elementary school students with a particular focus on emerging readers, the Lab offers hands-on and technology-based learning activities that support the start of a lifelong love of reading.

The ceremony recognized both the sacrifices of our nation's blinded veterans and the critical importance of accessibility in public spaces.
7/14/2025 - Library cardholders in several parishes can now visit select Louisiana museums free of charge through the new Check Out Louisiana Museums initiative. The pilot program expands the State Library’s Check Out Louisiana campaign to allow library patrons in participating parishes to check out an electronic pass to participating museums at no cost.

Participation in nearly all age group categories increased over last year, continuing an upward trend in readership over the past several years.
